Today music theatres of Russia oriented towards operetta and musical comedy are overcoming the crisis that was actively discussed by theatre critics in the past several years. We see a renewal of collaboration with contemporary authors ? composers and librettists, who are now recurring more willingly to the genre of musical. Inflow of creative youth to the theatres, conception of a new generation of actors, introduction of new expressive means, consolidation of administration, development of international communication ? all these phenomena are obvious nowadays. The progressive development of music theatre in our country is testified not only by increased public interest for this kind of theatres, but also by close attention on the part of serious theorists and critics.
In the current situation it is particularly important to contribute to theatres? consolidation, exchange of experience, thorough analysis of actual creative processes. And the idea of holding a big theatre forum meets these objectives best of all.
The Association of the Music Theatres of Russia that also acts as Russian Committee for Music theatres of the Russian National Centre of International Theatre Institute, and Sverdlovsk State Academic Musical Comedy Theatre, under the auspices of the Ministry of Culture of the Russian Federation and Theatre Union of the Russian Federation, hold The International Congress ?Operetta and Musical Comedy Today?. The Congress will take place from 24 to 28 October 2008 in Ekaterinburg.
The forthcoming theatre forum will be dedicated to the general theoretical problems of operetta and musical comedy development (the Congress is oriented towards a comprehensive analysis of the current situation in the theatre life in Russia and Europe, it comprises a detailed survey of contemporary literature on music theatre and many other issues), as well as to resolving particular problems.
During the congress much attention will be paid to the experience interchange in the field of training of young artists for contemporary music theatre. The days of the forum will be devoted to author?s workshops on acting technique, contemporary vocal and acting plasticity. The participants of the Congress will get the complete information about all of the Russian and European competitions of young artists of the music theatre. There will also take place an extensive discussion of repertoire forming issues, the usage of new information and PR technologies in the creative process and in the theatre activities orientation. One of the discussions will touch upon the perspectives of the music theatre development in Russia and Europe.
Not only the leading theorists and experts of the music theatre from Russia and the Commonwealth countries, but also European specialist of the music theatre will take part in the Congress work.
The Congress will coincide in time with the 75th anniversary of the Sverdlovsk State Academic Musical Comedy Theatre. All of the Congress participants will be the Theatre?s guests during these holidays. The ?anniversary parade? will consist of the most interesting stage plays. (24-26 October), a great Gala concert given by the stars of music theatres of Russia, CIS and theatres from Europe (27 October) and the anniversary of the Serdlovsk Musical Comedy Theatre company (28 October).
The Congress organizers are sure that the future theatre forum will be extremely interesting and informative for artists and music theatres? managers of our country and will certainly play an important part in enhancing the development of this genre of musical and theatrical art in Russia.
